Podcast Review
Name of show:  Steve Lamacq’s Roundtable

Structure:
How does it start and finish?
the show opens with an intro jingle. The jingle is a generic BBC 6 radio jingle which is rock based. This fits with the theme of the podcast as the podcast is a rock music podcast. The segment does not have any significant way of ending the section as the show continues onto another subject. Having the show have an introductory jingle lets the audience know what type of show they are listening to and also grabs the audience’s attention as they hear this catchy tune and want to listen.
What is the order of events?
The show opens with an intro jingle. This is used to catch the audience’s attention and get them to listen to the podcast. The presenter, Steve Lamacq, then introduces the song, my name is ruin, which is then played. Having the song played at the start of the show makes the audience know what the segment is about and lets them know what song the host is going to be talking about.
Once the song is over, Steve gives the audience a run down on the song and Gary Numans upcoming tour. This informs the audience on when they can listen to the song live and see Gary Numan. Steve then introduces his guests and the guests talk about the song and then about Gary Numan and their experiences with him. This also advertises Gary Numan as a person and the fun stories makes Gary come across as a likable person and will make the viewers want to listen to the music and go see his concerts. The guests then give the song a rating out of 10 and then the show moves onto another segment.

Tone/Style:
Informal/Formal?
The show is a music talk show. It is informal as they don’t use proper English at times and are just having a chat. This gives the host and the guests a friendly human feel and makes the audience feel like they are with the crew.
Fast paced or slow?
The show feels quite slow paced due to the slow background song which is being used. The song used is a reggae styled drum backing track which is quite catchy and funky which plods along and keeps the podcast going.
Age range / Target audience?
The age of the singer from the song which is played on the show is 59, this suggests that his age demographic group would be people in their 40’s or 50’s who like his music from when they were younger and he was younger. However, the target audience for the show may be in their 20’s or 30’s as radio 6 is an alternative rock station.

Presenters/guests:
Amount of guests?
There are 2 guests on the show, Chris and lee lamone. There is also a co-host named Namone. Chris is from the band Vampire Weekend which is an alternative rock band. He fits the position as a guest on the show well as he has a music industry knowledge of alternative rock music, which radio 6 and Steve Lamacq are all about. Lee lamone also tells us stories about Gary Numan which means they fit well onto the show.
Presenter style
Steve Lamacq is a very fast talking presenter who has a good knowledge of the music industry. This is good for his podcast as he knows a lot about the music industry and what is going on in it. the presenter talks very fast and tries to keep the show moving along.
Time given for questions?
The host allows a long response for each of the guests first answers however he is quick to keep the show moving and asks the questions quite fast.

Music/sound effect
Types of sound effects?
There is a quick into jingle saying radio 6 music at the start of the show. There are not any sound effects used throughout the clip. This could be because the show believes their target audience does not want to have any silly sound effects or funny noises on the show.
When are sound effects used?
At the start of the show there is a jingle. this is used to entice the audience and to remind them what podcast they are listening to.
Type of music?
there is an upbeat slow funky song in the background the whole way through the segment. The song uses a reggae drum and has a very bubbly feeling throughout the show. There is also the song, my name is ruin by Gary Numan, at the start of the show which they then talk about through the segment of the show.

Checklist

A)  Could have more sound effects to appeal to a wider audience.
B)  The host and guests where knowledgeable on music and the topic at hand. which was good for the show as it meant the audience could get an insight on the music world.
C)  The backing music was upbeat and worked well with the show.
D)  They had one guest text in however they could have used twitter to get more guests on the show.
E)   A lot of people on the show however when introduced their names were hard to hear as they were said quite fast.
